scams happen year-round. Those three top the IRS’s ‘Dirty
Dozen’ list of tax scams this year. Here’s some important
information you should know about these common tax scams:
Be Aware of Potential Credit Card
As part of a recent settlement, merchants gained the
ability to surcharge for credit card purchases on January
27, 2013. Florida is one of the states that is still
prohibiting this surcharge but many other states are
allowing it. For more information,

Please don’t forget that the US Treasury will not be
issuing paper checks any longer! By March 1, 2013 everyone
receiving federal benefits by paper check will need to
switch to electronic payments - which means direct deposit
to a bank or credit union account.
The US Treasury will NOT be contacting members that fail
to sign up for direct deposit – they will just discontinue
paying benefits to the individual. Members who disregard
the deadline could possibly not receive their Federal
benefit payment. To sign up for direct deposit; members
can go to
